My Background
Hi there! I’m Iliana Downing, founder and lead designer of ily designs. I’m currently a student-athlete at the University of Michigan, pursuing a degree in Art & Design; graduating in 2028.
Originally from San Diego, California, my passion for art and interior design began at a young age and has evolved into a deep love for creating thoughtful, elevated spaces. ily designs is an extension of that passion — a place where creativity and craftsmanship come together.
After graduating, I plan to further develop my experience within leading design firms, with the long-term goal of continuing to grow my own brand.
My Design Philosophy
At ily designs, I believe there’s no need to buy new furniture when what already exists can be thoughtfully reimagined. My work is rooted in the idea that it’s never too late to start over — that with intention and creativity, something old can become something entirely new.
Each piece is carefully restored to blend timeless design with renewed purpose, creating furniture that feels both elevated and meaningful.
My Process
My process is rooted in transformation — taking pieces with potential and giving them a new life. I start by carefully sourcing furniture with strong structure and timeless character, then move into selecting fabrics and details that elevate the piece.
From there, each item is thoughtfully reupholstered by hand, with attention to craftsmanship and quality at every step. The goal is to create something that feels refreshed, elevated, and completely reimagined.
It’s never too late to start over — especially in design. Every piece holds potential, and with the right vision, can be thoughtfully reimagined into something entirely new.
